Mods: There's no excuse for the spam here, and it will kill the site/forums stone dead if you don't deal with it promptly. What technical options have been explored for dealing with this (account approvals, ip filtering, captchas, time/volume limited posting for new accounts)?

We are dealing with spam on a daily basis, and clearing it when it appears, but there can be periods when there is no one online to remove, so it gets done as soon as possible
